Team members from Alexander Building Construction Co., Alvin H. Butz, Inc. and Shoemaker Construction Co. attended the 24th Annual Lean Construction Congress in New Orleans, Louisiana. The event was an opportunity for the Lean community to come together for knowledge-sharing and networking.
Senior Project Manager Justin Wingenfield and Senior Superintendent Jonathan Witmer presented lessons learned using visual management on the recently completed Penn State Health Lancaster Medical Center project. The two were joined by Mike Hallas, Project Manager with Lighthouse Electric, and Todd Lord, Senior Vice President of Community Hospital Development at Penn State Health.
They shared how visual management was used to communicate and collaborate with industry professionals to complete activities strategically and meet milestones successfully on the six-story, 341,000-square-foot hospital building. They showed specific examples of how visual management can be used including why and how they implemented the tool and the resulting outcomes.
On the Lean Learning Day, Enterprise Lean Champion Emily Lowe taught a four-hour class with Penn State Department of Architectural Engineering professors Robert Leicht and Dr. John Messner titled “Deploying Lean on Your Project using the Lean Deployment Guide.”
Additionally, Project Executive Daniel Flickinger attended the event as the Mid-Atlantic Community of Practice Leader and represented the team at the National Leadership Meeting.
Next year’s LCI Congress is October 24-27 in Detroit, Michigan.
