History

The Butz family has a long, successful tradition of building in the Lehigh Valley that dates back to the mid-1800s. Alvin H. Butz, Inc. has been continuously owned and operated in the Lehigh Valley by the Butz family, with the 6th generation in line to preserve the tradition and reputation of the organization.

1842

BOGERT’S BRIDGE
Solomon Butz, Sr., a leading builder of covered bridges, builds Bogert’s Bridge in Allentown, PA.

1937

ALVIN H. BUTZ GENERAL CONTRACTOR
Al Butz forms his own company, Alvin H. Butz, General Contractor, working out of his home in Allentown, PA.

1957

4TH GENERATION BUILDER
Lee Butz joins Alvin H. Butz, General Contractor

1972

SACRED HEART HOSPITAL TOWER
Alvin H. Butz, Inc. completes its first construction management project in Allentown, PA.

1980 / 1981

5TH GENERATION BUILDER
Greg Butz joins Alvin H. Butz, Inc.

ENGINEERING NEWS RECORD’S TOP 100
Alvin H. Butz, Inc. is ranked in Engineering News Record’s Top 100 CM Firms for the first time.

2003

SHOEMAKER AND ALEXANDER
Butz Enterprises, Inc. forms Shoemaker Construction (Conshohocken, PA) and Alexander Building Construction Co. (Harrisburg, PA and State College, PA).

2006

BUTZ CORPORATE CENTER
Butz relocates the main office to Butz Corporate Center, supporting revitalization efforts in downtown Allentown. The building is designed by Roberson Butz.

2011 / 2016

6TH GENERATION BUILDERS
Mike Butz and Steve Butz join Alvin H. Butz, Inc.

2021

NATIONAL RECOGNITON
Engineering News-Record ranks Butz Enterprises #93 in the nation for Top CM-at-Risk firms.
