The Nineteenth Street Theatre was originally built in 1928 and is a treasured architectural landmark. The theatre production company operates a full-time cinema exclusively showing art, independent and foreign films, live theatre productions, and a theatre school. Designed in the Art Deco style, special care was taken to preserve the integrity of architectural elements and ornamentation. Plaster ceiling and wall water damage was repaired and the Deco trim and murals in the lobby and auditorium were cleaned and restored. Plaster restoration included fabrication and replication of missing or damaged ornaments, patching and repairing of damaged areas. The facade was also restored. The project enhanced experiences for guests and students at Civic Theatre’s permanent home.

Civic has completed important upgrades to our 19th Street home since acquiring the theatre in 1957 but the current three-phase project is by far the most ambitious and ensures that this beautiful landmark will be here for future generations to enjoy. Butz has been instrumental in making Civic’s dream a reality.
