To enhance the campus environment, maximize parking and enable other projects to ensue, a two-story overbuild addition to the existing Saint Augustine Center garage was constructed nearly doubling the amount of parking currently available. The facility was constructed of precast concrete with stone cladding to blend with the structures throughout the campus. Additional foundation work occurred below the existing structure and included shearwalls and additional support for added levels to meet structural requirements. Features of the garage expansion included: pedestrian walkway, bent aluminum railings, precast addition & stone cladding,prefabricated shelters, 4-stop elevator, and improved lighting. Located in the heart of Villanova University’s active, urban campus, and adjacent to active SEPTA rail lines, careful coordination and close communication with the entire project team to ensure the safety of students, visitors, construction workers and staff was essential.
