Philadelphia Housing Authority developed 53 new rental buildings on 29 vacant parcels to create a total of 89 new units across nine urban blocks of Diamond Street (to the North), Berks Street (to the South), Marshall Street (to the East) and 9th Street (to the West). Construction of the housing units was built primarily as two- and three-story single-family row-home style walk-ups, with the exception of two multi-family apartment buildings. There are nine accessible units and two units for the hearing and visually impaired. Two buildings house seniors 55 and older and one houses a Community Center for use by the residents as well as a management office to facilitate the needs of the new community. Construction was phased into six areas to accommodate the nature of the scattered sites. The project will seek LEED certification.
