DIVERSITY
We provide opportunities.
We deliver projects that are inclusive and exceed expectations, including Disadvantaged Business Enterprises (DBE) targets. Our greatest strength in service to our clients is our people and we are committed to offering equal opportunities to staff.
our
Commitment
URBAN PRESENCE
We pay particular attention to projects located within the urban core. On these projects, we engage community organizations to provide contracting and workforce opportunities to low-income residents. This has proven successful, as several projects have achieved over 30% of the new hires being low income and local. We believe this is the best way to make an impact on a place and the families that live there.
DBE
PARTICIPATION
IN PROJECTS
We are committed to affording historically disadvantaged businesses equal opportunity to compete for and subsequently participate in the projects we manage. We proactively assist DBE firms with bidding by providing technical and management support. We coordinate with owners to establish DBE subcontractor participation goals for projects.
Partnerships
We are uniquely engaged in community service activities and diversity awareness partnerships. The company and our employees are committed to sharing their time, treasure and talent with many community groups providing equitable access. Our mission statement speaks to a ‘continued commitment to our community’.
ALLENTOWN
DRIVE
Allentown DRIVE is a baseball program for young teens ages 11 to 14. It was started in 2010 by Lee Butz and our employees have volunteered with the organization ever since. The program has 100 annual participants and encourages early adolescents to take lessons learned on the ball field into the classroom with the understanding that they will progress in school. Butz hired several minority employees from this program.
MYWIC
Mentoring Young Women in Construction Philadelphia is a hands-on camp co-founded by Maura Hesdon, Shoemaker’s General Manager, and it introduces school-aged girls to possible careers in construction industry.
WILLIAM ALLEN CONSTRUCTION COMPANY
WACC is a student-led organization that combines education and career development under the mentorship of Butz employees. We helped improve physical conditions of this urban school, encourage students to work together, show respect for learning spaces, and partner with businesses. These experiences have helped students’ college and careers paths.
