Beaver Stadium Revitalization Reaches Major Milestone with Topping Out Ceremony

The Barton Malow-AECOM Hunt-Alexander joint venture recently celebrated a significant milestone in the Beaver Stadium Revitalization project with the topping out of the new West Shore Home Field at Beaver Stadium structure. The topping out ceremony marked the completion of the structure’s steel framework and signified the project’s transition into its next phase of construction.

Prior to the beam being lifted into place, project team members, employees, and supporters participated in the long-standing construction tradition of signing the final beam, which was raised alongside an American flag and evergreen tree before being secured at the top of the building.

The Beaver Stadium Revitalization project began following the 2024 football season, when demolition activities included the removal of the existing press box, upper deck and several ground-level structures on the stadium’s west side. Once completed ahead of the 2027 football season, the project will significantly enhance the fan experience while creating new opportunities for athletics, community events and revenue generation.

Construction progress to date has been substantial, with more than 750,000 labor hours worked, 6,200 tons of structural steel erected and nearly 12,000 cubic yards of concrete placed. The project has also required extensive foundation work, including the installation of hundreds of micropiles drilled deep into bedrock to support the new structure.

The topping out ceremony represents more than just the completion of a structural phase, it is a celebration of the dedication, expertise, and collaboration of the many craftspeople, trade partners, and project stakeholders working to transform one of college football’s most iconic venues. As exterior work, building systems, and interior construction continue, the project moves one step closer to delivering a re-imagined Beaver Stadium experience for generations of Penn State fans to come.
